Place of event: Kovilj, near Novi Sad
The Kovilj Rakija Fest is held in the first half of July, a period when mulberry is ripe and ready for the making of rakija. The full day program includes the making of rakija, cooking dishes like Vojvodinian stew, beans, and barbecuing. You can get familiar with the ways of preparation and the making of homemade rakija as well as participate in the tasting of local products. The afternoon is reserved for a cultural and artistic program. Then follows the declaration of the winner of the rakija competition, and your pleasure, an auction sale of rated rakijas. Prices at the auction are symbolic. The evening part of the program is followed by the sounds of tambourine music until the early morning hours. If you are already in Kovilj, be sure to visit the birthplace of Laza Kostic, the Koviljski monastery, a tavern called "End of the World" and the Arkanj Paradise arms of the Danube.
